  • ATEX MEDIA SOLUTIONS
    Atex, a publishing systems supplier based in Bedford, Mass., has announced the release of Classified Pagination 5.7 for AIX. Enhancements include the ability to work with doubletruck and panoramic ads, as well as automatic detection of breaks in split liners to allow leg breaks.

    CCI, a Danish supplier of publishing systems with U.S. offices in Kennesaw, Ga., has announced that the sixth-largest newspaper in Norway, STAVANGER AFTENBLAD ASA (72k, morning) of Stavanger, will install a 130-seat CCI NewsDesk editorial system. The Windows NT-based production system will replace one made by Norsk Data.

    Also, VEJLE AMTS FOLKEBLAD/FREDERICIA DAGBLAD (31k, morning) of Vejle, Denmark, will upgrade reporter clients on its CCI NewsDesk newsroom system from Norsk Data to Windows NT and copy editor workstations from UNIX to Windows NT.

  • EDGIL ASSOCIATES INC.
    Edgil, a supplier of newspaper business office software based in Chelmsford, Mass., has announced a recent sale to THE RECORD (141k, morning) of Hackensack, N.J. The paper will use Edgil's EdgCapture product to automate its prepayment processing workflow to permit prepayment for ads directly from advertising and circulation workstations.

    Running on two Hewlett-Packard Pentium P2 233 PCs, EdgCapture will be connected to an Atex Enterprise advertising system. Ad takers will be able to place orders and take payments at the same time, either credit card or personal checks.

  • INFORMIX CORP.
    Informix, a supplier of e-commerce tools based in Menlo Park, Calif., has announced the recent sale of its web solutions to the SEATTLE TIMES (228, evening).

    The site, http://www.nwautospace.com/, uses the Informix Dynamic Server products to generate targeted pages for auto buyers, drawing from a database supplied by auto dealers in the Seattle area to satisfy users' custom searches.

    Managing Editor, an advertising production solutions supplier based in Jenkintown, Pa., has announced recent sales and upgrades at 35 sites.

    Among the sites working with Version 2.6 of the Classified Layout System were the KANSAS CITY STAR (282k, morning) and the ABILENE (Texas) REPORTER-NEWS (40k, morning). Newspapers upgrading or installing Version 2.5 of the Ad Layout System included the NEW HAVEN (Conn.) REGISTER (100k, morning) and MIAMI HERALD (33k, morning).

    Managing Editor also announced an expansion of its distribution network in Latin America through four system integration firms. The four firms are Berges et Co. (Betco) of Jensen Beach, Fla.; International Supply Co. of Pompano Beach, Fla.; ATMA Sistemas Graficos of La Paz, Bolivia, and Interlasa of Monterrey, Mexico.

  • MONOTYPE SYSTEMS INC.
    Monotype, an imaging device supplier based in Rolling Meadows, Ill., has announced the recent sale of six of its PrintExpress RIP modules to the CHOSUN ILBO (2.5m, morning) of Seoul, South Korea. The RIPs, running on one Sun Microsystems Enterprise 10000 server, are used to generate TIF files for production as well as track page elements.

    The RIPs will be installed by Monotype's Asian distributor, Human Computer Inc.

  • SOFTWARE CONSTRUCTION CO.
    Atlanta-based SCC, a supplier of workflow and archiving tools, has announced recent sales of its MediaServer product to the SACRAMENTO BEE (284k, morning), the first of three California McClatchy Co. papers to install the database product. The BEE configuration include two dual processor Pentium II servers.

    Installations at the FRESNO BEE (156k, morning) and MODESTO BEE (83k, morning) will be completed early in 1999. The completed project will enable the three papers to access one another's archives. SCC is also converting 14 years of data stored on an SII LASR archiving system to MediaServer.

    SCC also announced the recent installation of a 44-seat MediaServer system at the FLORENCE (Ala.) TIMES-DAILY (33k, morning). Overseas, SCC installed MediaServer at EL COMERCIO (140k, morning) in Quito, Ecuador, and EL MUNDO (104k, morning) in Madrid, Spain.

    SII, a publishing systems supplier based in Sacramento, has announced the sale of its System/77 advertising and editorial production package to the DENVER POST (342k, morning). The long-time SII site will upgrade its 400-seat installation to ServerNet and add DualSCOOP output tool with data replication.

  • TRIBUNE MEDIA SERVICES
    Chicago-based TMS, a provider of television listings to multiple media, has announced an agreement to provide TV listings to subscribers to the wireless communications service PageNet, of Dallas.

    TMS will provide listings by categories (prime time, sports, talk shows and the like) for PageNet to distribute to its 10 million subscribers. The companies plan to offer customized delivery, with listings by actor or subject as declared by the user.
